Here's what you can, and can't, do under Ontario's latest stay-at-home order
What about renting a cottage or hotel room? Under the current stay-at-home order, Ontarians can stay in hotels, motels, lodges, resorts or student residences, but they cannot book short-term rentals including cabins and cottages unless they are in need of housing.

Dear valued guest / potential guest,
We are excited about hosting you or the possibility of hosting you & wanted to take the time to address a few questions and concerns.

We are a registered hotel and as per Ontario legislation, hotels and motels can remain open for business. (*see more info below)
First and foremost we want to reassure you that as always, your health, safety and comfort is our main concern. Covid-19 protocols have been and continue to be in place including sanitizing, disinfecting and the use of our UV Ozone machine in between every guest changeover.
Social distancing & masks are of course a norm by now.
Better than me telling you this is you taking the time to read our reviews and what guests are saying regarding Covid 😊.
Trail systems are still open for your fresh air hiking pleasure
Local Restaurants remain open for take out and Grogs also offers delivery.
Our hot tub, sauna, fitness studio and fire pit will continue to operate, as always, for Private Sessions only via reservation after your check in orientation. Our little retreat hotel hosts a maximum of 8 persons at any given time.
Soaps & Hand sanitizer is provided in room for your added convenience and peace of mind.
Buying groceries from your area is encouraged so you do not need to visit our stores. Pre-Prepared meals are a great way to offer a lot of convenience and make your vacation more enjoyable!
We look forward to hosting you,
Diane & Mike

O. Reg. 82/20: RULES FOR AREAS IN STAGE 1

Short-term rentals 6. (1) Every person who provides short term rental accommodation shall ensure that any rentals are only provided to individuals who are in need of housing.

(2) Subsection (1) does not apply with respect to hotels, motels, lodges, resorts and other shared rental accommodation, including student residences, but does apply with respect to cabins and cottages.

For in depth information, please visit information about measures proposed to come into effect in Ontario or in areas of Ontario between Tuesday January 12, 2021 and Thursday, January 14, 2021.

"I know essential means different things to different people ... so we need everyone to use their best judgment. If you're not sure if a trip is absolutely essential, it probably isn't," he (Doug Ford) said. - Source CBC News

What is essential? (source CTV News) To exercise: As defined as “walking or moving around outdoors” using “an assistive mobility device,” or an outdoor amenity permitted to be open during Stage 1 of Ontario’s reopening rules. There is no word on what an individual would have to show a peace officer to prove they are exercising.

Can Police randomly stop you? (source CTV news) "On its own, being outside is not sufficient evidence of a failure to comply with the stay-at-home order," spokesman Stephen Warner said. The service added that no element of the stay-at-home order provides “police with either the power to enter dwellings nor the authority to stop a vehicle for the singular purpose of checking compliance.”Additionally, the service said, individuals are “not compelled to explain why they are out of their residence, nor is being outside prima facie evidence of failure to comply with the stay-at-home order.”

Re: COVID-19, Updated December 24, 2020

Dear Port Franks Getaway Guests & Potential Guests,

As your hosts, we wanted to take a moment to share with you the steps we are taking to keep our guests healthy and safe in response to the coronavirus (COVID-19). We will continuously update any new/changed measures as time progresses. For example, no hot tub or sauna sharing - most of our guests preferred private sessions anyway 🙂

Rest assured, we are doing our best in preventing the spread of infection. We have enhanced our already-stringent cleaning protocols of our units. Relax in the knowledge that in addition to our cleaning practices, your apartment has been disinfected via our new UV Ozone machine.

With only four units, each with it's own private entrance, our maximum capacity is 8 persons. Even when we are full, most guests think they are alone! Self check in instills confidence in physical distancing.

In addition to our usual stringent cleaning and disinfecting of all surfaces, we are paying particular extra attention to other high-touch surfaces such as external doorknobs, keypads, etc.

We also sanitize all pillows, bedding, towels, etc. in addition to high heat laundering with disinfectant (bleach).

Various other precautions are taken as well, too numerous to mention (ie. vacuum filters, cleaning rags, masks, sanitizers...).

As always, we have strict hygiene policies for ourselves.

Precautions you can take include:

  • Frequent hand washing with soap & warm water for minimum 25 seconds
  • Have hand disinfection ready
  • Avoid unnecessary hand contact
  • Avoid touching eyes, mouth and nose
  • Cover the mouth with the elbow when coughing and sneezing
  • Keep at least two meters away from other persons / physical distancing

Please enjoy your getaway, knowing we are doing everything in our possibilities to provide you with not just a great experience, but also a healthy one.

We are pleased to offer in room hand sanitizer for your personal use while staying at our premises.

Kindly,

Diane & Mike - Your Hosts

  2. Hi Diane and Mike,
Curious about booking a few nights soon and wondering what the beach access is for the month of June?

    1. Hi Katrina, Unfortunately, nobody knows. Wish I had an answer. At the moment, Ontario beaches are still closed to the public.

  3. “My husband and I just spent an amazing week in the Studio at Port Franks Getaway. We loved every inch of Diane and Mike s property. Also their hospitality was impecable! From the cleanliness of the indoors and outdoors to the relaxing Wellness Centre in the backyard and the littlw surprises of absolutely delicious baked good each morning, we were completely in heaven. The area was wonderful for hikes, biking and of course the beach with soft sand and turquoise water. We didn t want to leave and definitely want to return as soon as we can. Thank you again for everything Diane and Mike!”
